In-situ hydrogen production testing tool allows for testing of hydrogen production as well as hydrogen storage in subsurface formation in original reservoir conditions. The end user of this technology would be energy companies which are interested in producing hydrogen from their depleted hydrocarbon reservoirs, which would otherwise be left unutilized having served the initial purpose of hydrocarbon production. Technology can also be used by companies which will be business of in-situ hydrogen storage to determine the in-situ hydrogen saturation at minimal cost. The in-situ method of hydrogen production test includes steps of accessing the depleted subsurface reservoir with residual hydrocarbon saturation in a vertical or horizontal well, conducting a first test using our tool to determine residual hydrocarbon saturation, and conducting a second test to determine in-situ hydrogen production capacity of the subsurface reservoir.
